The World Championship represents the pinnacle of League of Legends esports. Every year, the best teams from around the world compete for the title of World Champion and the Summoner’s Cup, one of the most recognizable and prestigious trophies in the industry.
The 2023 World FinaLols marks the return of exhibition games to South Korea, which hosted the final stages of the 2014 World Finals and the entirety of the 2018 tournament. The event is once again limited to just one host country, following races in Mexico and the United States in 2022.

Worlds 2023: Dates, schedule and venues
The World Championship will be held later than usual to accommodate professional League of Legends esports players competing in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. The event will take place at four different venues in South Korea from October 10 to November 19.

Play-Ins: October 10-15 (LoL Park, Seoul)
Group Stage: October 19-29 (KBS Arena, Seoul)
Quarter-finals: November 2-5 (Sajik Indoor Gymnasium, Busan)
Semi-finals: November 11-12 (Sajik Indoor Gymnasium, Busan)
Finals: November 19 (Gocheok Sky Dome, Seoul)
The 2023 Global Finals will feature 22 teams from around the world. The competition will begin with the play-in stage, with the lower-ranked teams vying for the two spots on the Swiss stage. There, they will join 14 seeded teams from the major divisions (LCK, LPL, LCS and LEC).
Play-In (October 10-15):
The 8 teams will be divided into two double-elimination groups.
The top 2 teams in each group advance to the second round of play-ins.
All matches are BO3.
The upper bracket winner from each group faces the loser bracket winner from the other group.
Both matches are BO5, with the winners advancing to the Swiss Stage.
Swiss Stage (October 19-29):
A total of 16 teams played five rounds in the Swiss stage.
During the first stage, teams are randomly paired with opponents from another region. After that, the team will face opponents with the same win-loss record.
The team that wins 3 games advances to the playoffs.
Teams that lose 3 games will be eliminated.
Both promotion and knockout rounds are BO3. The rest of the games are BO1.
Playoffs (November 2-19):
8 teams compete in a single-elimination bracket.
All matches are BO5.
Worlds 2023: Teams and rosters
Before Worlds 2023 begins, there will be a qualifying tournament called the Worlds Qualifying Series (WQS), featuring the fourth seeds from the LCS and LEC. The winner of this cross-regional competition will be awarded a final spot in the Play-In Stage.
JDG first won the World Championship, and then BLG defeated LNG and won the World Championship together with them. JDG’s support, Missing, holding up signs saying they would secure BLG’s spot. And, after an incredible BO5 win over LNG, they delivered on that promise.
Meanwhile, Cloud9 decisively defeated Evil Geniuses 3-0 to advance. The gap between the two sides is not close, but they look like the strongest team in North America again. NRG was not to be outdone, beating GG 3-1 and securing a place in the World Championship, while LNG defeated EDG in the regional qualifiers to advance.
